Healthy Franklin County (HFC) is hosting the Franklin County Health Summit on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Wilson College. This free, full-day event will run from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM and includes a light breakfast and lunch.

The summit will begin with a screening of the documentary Join or Die, which explores America’s civic decline through the lens of social scientist Robert Putnam and his influential research, Bowling Alone. The film highlights the importance of community connections and their role in strengthening democracy.

A panel discussion featuring local civic leaders — Nathan Neil (Free Masons), Linda Boeckman (Rotarian), and Amy Hicks (United Way of Franklin County) — will follow the screening, offering insights into how civic engagement strengthens communities and contributes to individual well-being.

Civic participation encompasses a wide range of activities — from volunteering and voting to participating in recreational groups and community gardening. These activities not only benefit society but also produce secondary health benefits for participants. Research shows that civic engagement builds social capital, expands social networks, and fosters a sense of purpose — all of which are linked to improved physical and mental health.

After lunch, the afternoon will feature data presentations by Berwood Yost from the Franklin & Marshall Center for Opinion Research and Stephanie Voight from WellSpan Health. They will share key findings from the Community Health Needs Assessment (2025 CHNA), conducted every three years by WellSpan Health. The CHNA is a vital tool used by local healthcare systems and community-based organizations to identify health priorities and develop strategies to address them.

Healthy Franklin County brings together community stakeholders to create a joint plan of action aimed at improving the health and well-being of Franklin County residents. During the summit, HFC will also present the Community Health Champion Award(s) to recognize individuals and organizations making a meaningful impact in the community.

Registration is required by October 7. To register click here or contact npurdy@wellspan.org.
